Has the Internet killed the joys of sitting down with a good book? My favorite writer tackles brain rewiring, the value of unplugging, ADD for Internets, and more. Plus his "nipple of my id" phrase may just be tickling my mental funny bone for days, if not weeks. Meanwhile, my own stack of books (both bought and library) continue to grow...
Getty has inked a deal with Flickr to start roaming their archives on the schniff for amazing photography; photographers they like and think are saleable may be approached about licensing their images commercially. Whole new world, certainly, but it's nice to see a company that "gets" the online thing more than, well, certain other stock companies. Instead of bemoaning Flickr and denouncing it, they're using it as a resource. And why not? Bravo.

Also known as: Why You Should Pay More Attention in Math Class. Sigh. Doctorow points to two of the biggest "fear" buttons out there - pedophiles, and terrorists, to help demonstrate. Good reading; wish I could get everyone to read (and understand!!) it. :)

I am crazy excited about this. As an avid pedestrain and serious avoider of being in a car, the option to plan out walking routes throughout the city (and be able to estimate time it will take me to do so) is insanely wonderful and as I write this, I am doing a little happy dance at my desk. The beta states I'm a 38 minute walk from St. Lawrence Market; that's pretty close, we usually take about 1/2 an hour. :)
