- Starbucks logo too risque for schools?
Oh, for the love. Since practically the beginning of time (think: Greek statues, mastheads of ships) we've had nudity in art. Since when will the wee populace go running into the streets fornicating with god-knows-what because of an artistic logo on a coffee cup?
Oh please! Have you completely forgotten your pre-teen years or what?
I think the title of the article is misleading. This isn't a morality police issue. The article merely said someone thought that the students would find the nudity "distracting".
Try this... walk into a 3rd-8th grade classroom and say "boobie"... or "fart"... or "penis"... watch what happens (until security comes and you're taken away to get catalogued as a sex offender).
Oh sure, some of the kids will just roll their eyes, but $200 says that enough giggles, whispers, etc. will ensue to force the teacher to resort to some kind of corrective action, probably on the whole class.
Kids are wild about taboos. They're taboo. That's what makes them fun.
Now, is this an overreaction on the part of the principal? Sure! Most of the kids wouldn't even notice... But is the principal right about a half-naked mermaid being distracting? Hell yes! In fact, covering it up might even backfire, since the attempts to hide the logo could draw attention to the little mermaid with her boobies out.
Sometimes it's not about morality... sometimes it's just about keeping the kiddies focused on the task at hand.

you gotta be kidding me!
