TTC + Google
posted 2006.03.21
I snagged a copy of Metro this morning basically for the headline: TTC mulls Google trip plan.
The upshot: Google wants the TTC's station, stop, schedule and route data to create a trip planner. Torontonians would be able to input a start and end point, and Google would provide the shortest or fastest routes via the TTC. They're already piloting this program with Portland Transit.
Sweet.
The real question is: will the TTC play along? Gosh, I hope so. TTC chair Howard Moscoe is quoted in the piece saying: "It looks to me like the costs are minimal. I think we should bring it about rather than wait for the staff to develop all of their systems [in order for the TTC to create their own version of this], because it can happen very quickly." Just so.
The Toronto Star has a piece on this, too.
