pink is the new black
posted 2004.04.03
So, in deference to my growing obsession with pink, you'll see that angiemckaig.com has a new face, and it's very, very pink. You'll notice it also has the legs. Always the legs. It's like a thing with me. I don't know why I love the idea so much, but I haven't grown tired of the concept yet, so you'll just have to put up with it until I do. :)
There have been some subtle changes as well:
Categorized posts - I did start doing this a while back, but hadn't classified everything. Now most of the posts that can be classified have been folded into one of five areas: assorted sweets, business, culture, design and geekery. A lot of older posts (circa 2002 or earlier) just don't fit into any category, so they won't be in the category archives, but you can always find them in the complete archive.
Future proof URLs - As so many others out there have suggested, I've gone ahead and future-proofed my URLs, with one exception: I haven't used Brad's Regex filter to strip of the index.html at the end of the links. The thinking behind this is that stripping off the file name allowed you to change your technology (to .php or .xml) without having to change all your links. But I've always been of the faction that if your technology changes, your file extensions shouldn't anyway. What's wrong with an .html extension? If I switch to PHP, it's as simple as adding AddType php-cgi .html to my Apache config, and I'm ready to go again. Besides, I've always considered it to be nobodys beeswax but my own what technology runs my pages. So there. :)
Favourite posts - A few of my favourite/most popular posts. This will get updated sporadically.
Expect more improvements in the coming weeks; I've got a lot of niggling little things that have bugged me about this site for a long time.
Not everything is switched over yet - my hand-tooled pages (Miscellaneous, Resume) are still in the old design, mainly because I ran out of steam today. They'll catch up in due course.
Caveats: For some unknown and bizarre reason, the floating child div which holds the left-hand column (the text) seems to escape outside its container div in Mozilla and Firefox. Netscape, Safari, IE and Opera on both platforms behave properly, darn it all, but even with clears, I can't seem to make Firefox behave. So patootie. I hope to figure out a fix eventually, but for now, your Moz or Firefox browser may see some interesting things. My apologies. (By the way, if any of you have suggestions as to why my child is misbehaving in Moz, feel free to leave your comments!)

Keith, coming from you, that's high praise indeed. Thanks!
The bg pattern is quite attractive and gotta those sexy legs. Nice job!
Ooops! I meant, "gotta LOVE those sexy legs."
Still very nice. Your blog is one of the most fun, useful and interesting blogs I've come across in a long time. I always find myself "jones-ing" for another AngieMcKaig fix. :)
Thanks Jeff, Donny for your nice comments. I gotta say, Donny, that "sexy" is never something I have in my head when I'm coming up with a new legs design, but I can't tell you how many guys write in and say they love the sexy legs. *laughs* Who knew?

Looks very nice. Good work!
