blog sidebar widgets
posted 2004.02.20
Like most sites, my sidebar is ever-evolving. It's not quite as hip, not quite as informative or useful as many others I've seen online simply because I lack the discipline to keep them updated properly.
Still, it's always nice to know what's out there. Trouble is, I can't seem to find a site that lists a lot of them in one place (I'm thinking of a site like MT-Plugins, which just collects everything in one place for me to browse with).
See, I know about Blogrolling (but I prefer to list my feed list in my sidebar instead, since 120 links is just too huge). An interesting alternative in Flash is the Lazlo Blogbox. I still think I have too many, though, for it to work.
My girlfriend Stacey uses All Consuming's service to add books in progress to her blog, and something that plugs into her iTunes, I think, to do the CDs. (Stace? care to comment here?)
I found something similar on Brainstorms and Raves for WinAmp.
Some people post recent photos to their sidebar, I'm not sure which plugins they use, but neither did I look very hard for examples.
I also found tonight a little widget that lets you keep a moon phase calendar in your sidebar. Pretty.
But really, hasn't anyone collected all of these (and I'm sure there are hundreds) into one link directory?
Please feel free to leave any links you know of for sidebar widgets, or lists of them, in the comments. Thanks!

Hmm.
Admittedly, I've added the links to the CDs I'm currently listening to by hand, because I've not found anything as useful as All Consuming for CDs. The one main problem I see with this is that I'll eventually forget to update to the new things I've discovered.
I googled a bit and here are some utils I found:
Using iTunes? Try KungTunes [ http://www.kung-foo.tv/itti.php# ] works with iTunes (Mac) to build a "last track" link in your sidebar. Or BlogTunes [ http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/blogtunes ] if you're on a PC. For those of you using WinAmp check this out [ http://www.virtualvenus.org/archives/0306/winamp_hoverable_playlist.php ]
