a new pair of legs for 2004
posted 2004.01.10
Well, as you (may) be able to see, I’ve played again in Photoshop, and this is the result. If the site looks wonky or off-kilter, I encourage you to reload. Any recurring wonkiness will be due to browser bugs — feel free to leave any bugs found in the comments.
The reasons behind the redesign, for those who wish to know the utterly banal details:
1. Changing from “technofodder for the masses”. Yes, it’s a great moniker, and it’s served me well for the last few years, but it no longer reflects the much stronger interests I have these days in design and business (must come from owning my own). The new tagline reflects the kinds of links you’ll find here much more than “technofodder” has, in recent months.
2. A lovely font I found at DaFont called Scriptina. Something about it, particularly when coupled with more urban images like the one above, just calls to me. Yummy.
3. The lovely photo found at stock.xchng. I swear, it’s starting to be my favourite site for finding images–many are even allowed to be used for commercial jobs. And free. Kind of like what istockphoto.com was before they got too popular.
4. A desire to get the links back on the right hand side. For no other reason than personal esthetics.
So, there you have it. For now, she validates, too—at least until the next time I forget to correctly declare the & symbol in a URL. Darn, I’m bad at that!
I should also take a moment to thank Jeffrey for his fantastic process and script, responsible for the new and more regularly updated Assorted Sweets posts. No more links sitting in a “draft” post for weeks on end waiting for me to have time to formulate them into a post!
Now, if I could just figure out how to hack the script (I'm not much of a Perl guru) to declare a category for those posts when it creates them, I'd be on my way.
And lastly, a belated Happy 2004 to all. I’m celebrating 10 years online this year. Gosh, I miss the old days. More on that soon. :)
Update: This gentleman had already solved the category problem, and was kind enough to share! Many, many thanks!

Congratulations to the new design. But it seem you didn't manage to completely part with the old tagline - the page title is still "technofodder for the masses" ...

I wrote up the set of changes and posted them on my site. Feel free to refer people to http://squarewithin.com/2004/01/10_veen_script_modifications for basically the same email I gave you. Also, a copy of the full script is available here:
