obsessed with tiki
posted 2003.11.16
Inspired by my complete obsession with House Industries' newest line called Shag, I have been digging around to find other Tiki-inspired sites. I swear I should just give up and re-do this site in Tiki, but there's one problem...
Did Tikis have legs?
At any rate, my finds below:
http://www.tikiroom.com/
“The one stop shop for all things Tiki.”
http://www.tikiroom.net/
A very fun Tiki mug gallery, and other bits.
http://www.tikimon.net/
This site sells hand carved tiki totems. Oh, pretty pretty.
Tiki Farm
“Purveyors of Polynesian Pop Culture”. Really cool coconut stuff here too.
http://www.tikiwonder.com/
Another site devoted to all things Tiki.
http://www.tikinews.com/
A fanzine that brings you - believe it or not - all the news on Tiki stuff. Wild.
http://www.shagmart.com/
Not really Tiki, but shag-like, with too fun barware.
http://www.aisletiki.com/
“The finest selection of Tiki anywhere”. Another retailer. Super black tiki lamps.

More genuine handcarved Tiki totems. Really intricate stuff.
Found at Amazon: The Book of Tiki and Tiki Road Trip - A guide to Tiki Culture in North America.
About this obsession. Yes, I know it's an illness. But it also reminds me of the completely tacky outdoor lights we had around our trailer when I was a little girl - each one covered with a plastic Tiki that my mom and grandmother had collected from various trips to Tiki Gardens in Florida.
Ah, the seventies, brown and yellow and orange and red, polyester of my youth. What sweet, strange memories. :)
More techy goodness soon, I promise. I have been momentarily distracted for a few weeks by the prettiness of the world.
