post assorted sweets #122003.08.25

Back to normal? Well, probably will take me another week or so to shake off the effects of this killer month, but at least for now I have some linky goodness to share, which has gone missing for far too long.

My new favourite site is F*ck That Job! It profiles some of the completely ridiculous job ads there are out there for tech, as well as other fields. Reminds me of a Brain Lint rant I wrote a while ago.

Alan Cooper, author of the excellent Inmates are Running the Asylum, weighs in on the origin of personas. Cool.

On September 30th, MIT's OpenCourseWare site will offer course materials for over 500 of their courses. Guess what I'm doing this winter. Sure, sure, it's not a Harvard MBA, but the price is right.

Also from the magic of MIT labs comes Haystack: “Haystack is a tool designed to let every individual manage all of their information in the way that makes the most sense to them. By removing the arbitrary barriers created by applications only handling certain information "types", and recording only a fixed set of relationships defined by the developer, we aim to let users define whichever arrangements of, connections between, and views of information they find most effective. Such personalization of information management will dramatically improve each individual's ability to find what they need when they need it.”

The RIAA Breaks Up the Brand: “The cardinal rule of marketing? Don't make 'em hate you. It's a lesson the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) desperately needs to learn.”

Publish a newsletter? Great tips here.

Finally, I want one of these. There is nothing like a Holly Hobbie Lunchbox to brighten the day.
