death of a web team
posted 2003.06.02
Death of a Web Team is equal parts fascinating and horrible to read, because of course anyone who's worked in this biz for enough time has definitely worked with similar calibres of mucky-mucks.
It's a frustrating time, to feel so helpless, like being cuffed to a boat that's heading towards a big, deadly waterfall and you can't do anything but swim along and try not to get shoved under the boat by the current.
I think the thing that bothers me the most about this piece is the concept of mucky-mucks not trusting their own web people. Or maybe it's just people, period, but tech people get a very bad rap for not understanding business and business requirements. And sure, maybe we even deserve some of that rap. But in the end if you don't trust the people you've hired to know their piece of the machine, then why did you hire them?
Rhetorical. Never mind.
Incidentally, mucky-mucks is now my favourite new phrase to describe the suits that just don't get it. The suits that do, I'll still call by name. :)
