post not quite all technofodder2003.05.21

So many links littering my “to keep” folder that if I don't empty them here soon they will take over my computer. Lots of non-tech stuff as well this entry, so geeks beware. :)

I used to think these were just silly. That was before I spent a decade trying to clean everything-but-the-kitchen-sink out from between the keys in my keyboard with nothing more than compressed air. And compressed air, I've decided, sucks. So maybe they're not such a bad idea after all. And some days I do miss the hard clackety-clack. (via #!/usr/bin/girl)

These lovely figurines are due out this month to coincide with The Matrix: Revolutions debut. Also for Giger lovers, these look amazing—they'll be out in 2004. These aren't just toys. They're art.

It's old, and was heavily memed, but I found Matthew Thomas' ultimate Weblogging system outline to be interesting reading indeed. Wish I could write back-end code with something more elegant than a shovel. I love the idea of taking on a project like this.

Waferbaby made me laugh. It could be worse. Yodeling could make a comeback.

http://stories.about.ticketstubs.org/. Fascinating.

And because I just don't read enough about MT often enough to stay in the loop, apparently some smart people have put all the plugins together in one place. Who knew. Yum.

Also heavily memed, but I must mention it given how they're Canucks and all, Barenaked Ladies have a blog.

I remember when hokey 88 x 31 buttons were all the rage. My first site said “Netscape Now!” for far longer than I'd want to ever admit. And then buttons went out, and it was all about clean. And now they're back, but it's still about clean. These are just yummy. What would the web have done without Jason's font?

A week of endings and of beginnings, from the pop culture scene. My favourite show of all time ended on Tuesday. I offer this collection of goodbye links from GreenCine. And a blog found later in life than I'd have liked: Whedonesque. He really is quite a brilliant writer.

And beginnings, of course, refers to the fact the The Matrix: Reloaded is finally out. I don't know why so many geeks hated the scenes in Zion, I thought they were lovely and needed, similar to the textures that Tatooine had in Star Wars, cloth and natural colours and living and breathing as opposed to the right angles and calculation with the machines. Plus there was accurate geek shit, and lovely philosophical underpinnings. And leather. And things blowing up. What else do you need? :)

If you like fantasy or mythological fiction, you might just find a new book among the many lists here.
