Sadly whenever I post a Web Developer position these make up 95% of the responces.

It's amusing, but I am both a floor wax and a dessert topping. That said, I am stronger in the Architecture side, than I am in the making pretty pictures side.

My personal favourite gaffe is "10+ years of J2EE experience" (for the record, Java has only been out since 1996. I was at the first Java One conference. J2EE -the "Enterprise Edition"- isn't even 6 years old). And there are people who will change their CVs to reflect the "fact" that they have all the bullet points. Sigh. I weep for the future of humanity.

I do agree about the mutual respect thing. Another issue I have is with companies who claim they want [insert very senior position] but insist that they should be code monkeys/production wonks (for no pay). The quicker they realise what they really need, the quicker the job will be filled with a qualified candidate.

Sigh

Bravo. These employers need to get a clue. I am constantly annoyed by the job requirements I see in my monster.com agents. I don't know why I bother.

I'm amazed at how many ads for web designers/webmasters demand the use of Photoshop,
and Illustrator--especially when I can design quality graphics and logos with many other programs. I also wonder why they think someone with excellent HTML skills would even need to use a program like FrontPage.

Also amusing are companies who insist on using Flash intros on their web pages. People in the business world don't have time to wait five minutes or longer for a page to load--they just want to know about products or services a company offers, their prices, etc. Most customers who don't do web design themselves couldn't care less about how artistic a company's website is--they want a functional, informative, user-friendly site.

What always amazes me about ads like these are the wages offered (when posted). I have seen similar job ads, here in Wisconsin, offering a starting rate of $10 per hour and also needing you to be able to regularly travel and stay away from home using your own transport! I thought that was kinda funny until I saw that they also needed experience with Win95. I never applied!
Does anybody ever go after these jobs? Has anyone reading actually got a position from one of these ads?

More often than not THERE IS NO JOB. These are placement agency or HR idiots on fishing expeditions looking to fatten up their pile of resumes. They are constantly doing this because they want their workforce to think that they are totally expendable and that they can be replaced in an instant. All this type of an ad accomplishes is that it encourages potential applicants to lie about their credentials because the posting sets standards that are impossible for mere mortals to meet. Payback for the .COM era perhaps?

The previous poster hit the nail on the head when they mentioned respect, since these days it seems to be in very short supply on both sides of the fence. Employers do not show any loyalty to their employees, instead they choose to be loyal to their shareholders first. Employees are just as bad. We have become mercenaries who would turn our back on the organization that previously fed our families just so that we can jump to another firm because they have a pool table or more flextime or some other trinket. What happened to the employer-employee relationship?
