if I won the lottery, I'd buy...2002.09.29
If I ever win the lottery, I want to buy:
First-edition copies of the Dark Tower series.
This refrigerator.
Furnishings for my home from here.
This santa and this one and stuff from here.
This house, maybe.
This list of course reveals two things - I spent the evening shopping online, and I have champagne tastes to go with my beer budget.
Seems like there's a “new minimalism” emerging among some popular blogs. Is it just me? See: evhead, statingtheobvious, xplane, movable type. Interesting.
An interesting article on digital retouching, some really good stuff here.
Intel demos 4.7-GHz Pentium processor: I never fail to be in awe of the speed of change. I can remember with fondness buying a 1.4 gb hard drive for $400, 4 MB of RAM for the same. I mean, really - my first computer was a 486 SLC 66( which was a cheated version of the 486 with math coprocessor). My Visor's nearly faster than that now. Winds of change, and all that.
I want this book: “The ultimate operating system reference: Over 8,000 commands and 57,000 command options from every major operating system--Windows. UNIX. Linux. NetWare. Macintosh. DOS. If you're a systems professional, chances are you're pretty familiar with commands in at least one of these operating systems. But what happens when you need to get up to speed on an operating system you don't know? This ingenious reference will have you up and running in no time.”
Finally, I'm frustrated with Amazon. What I would like most in the world is the ability to download a copy of my wish list - some kind of delimited text would be fine - so I can move it into my PDA. This way during the rare occasions I'm actually in a book store I can remember what the heck it is I want. Yes, I know that's counter intuitive to why Amazon provides wish lists in the first place, but it's not like I don't buy from them, I do. But expecting me to never head into a book store to buy a book is also unrealistic. I did try looking around to see if anyone was using the API that way, but I can't find it. A very nice developer friend of mine also looked around to see if it was possible, but no such luck. Yet. Anyone know of a way to do this without having to resort to screen scrape?
