I was going to rant2002.07.30
I was going to rant once again about the incredible stupidity surrounding this newest case on deep linking. All that ground to a halt when I did a search on a whim and decided I could practically have a blog just about that issue. Insanity. We live in a world where branding and ad serving outweigh sanity. I would like to point out that every single link in this paragraph represents a deep link. So there.
A link from a link from a link sent me to this site, and I've decided that this will be my rant of the day, instead. Very useful blog. That is, until I tried to go anywhere within the site (or outside of it, more importantly, since it's a blog). Go there, click on an outside link. Then look at your address bar.
What is it with sites that stick you inside frames. the whole site through a single invisible frame, so you can't see the real URL, can't go to new sites without getting stuck inside the invisible frame? ARRRRRRRRGH! Why am I not allowed to see your URLs? Are they ugly? Are they deformed? Do they not play in public well? Honestly, I don't care that his site is hosted on Blogspot. I just want to use the site! Most particularly, I shouldn't have to find and choose an option to open all links in a new window to avoid this framestuckiness. Maybe I want the links to open in the same window! It's really very simple. <a target="_top">. Let me pass out of your frame, for goodness sake. This is exactly the reason why sites in 1997 all used to have a “Stuck in someone else's frames? Click here!” link. I don't mean to single Ian out, it's not just his site and many other sites do it too, but this is horrible. Hello? User experience anyone?
I am just geeky enough to want one of these. Or these.
Fan of No Logo? You'll love this shirt.
Finally, a great example of what is possible with Amazon Web Services. The possibilities are enough to make a girl drool. How fun.
