post Ever run across a project2002.07.04

Ever run across a project so wacky and fun and improbable and amazing it raises those little hairs on your arms? That's what finding 1000 Journals did for me.

I'm sitting at my desk on lunch hour, listening to Peter Gabriel and Afro Celt Sound System, thinking about David's Small Pieces, and I find the 1000 Journals site.

It hits me (as it does every so often): it's a revolution. This whole Internet thing. What it's allowing us to do. Even better, what it's inspiring us to do. It's such an exciting time to be alive. Grab a hand-hold on the express and let's go for a ride. We live in our own Age of Aquarius. If only all people could see it. I wonder if people said the same thing during other exciting times in history.

I love having moments like this. Helps me to remember why I do this crazy work they call the Web.

Via the SFGate: the US Army releases a video game. Well, hell, if kids are gonna blow shit up, it might as well be endorsed by the US Government, no? Scary.

One of my all-time favourite journalists is Mark Morford of the SF Gate. His regular diatribes on the ridiculousness of the culture in which we are all immersed up to our eyeballs always strike me as sadly true and hilariously funny all at once. A recent piece of his is Girl With The Toaster Tattoo.

He says: “It is a psychological aegis, a soul-slap, a permanent piece of tangible everpresent everprofound artwork meant to speak to the wearer and say things like: You don't always have to make toast. ”. Bravo, Mark, for reminding me. This is an excellent piece - go, read it now. And be prepared to lick the ice cream cone in the other direction.

You can sign up for Mark's (nearly every) Morning Fix here. And you should. :)
