I had an incredible experience today. Twenty minutes to view a movie trailer. Read more about it in my newest Brain Lint, Barriers to Entry.

A wonderful, moving article posted from the New York Times about the miracle that is the web leaves you with that real downy-soft feeling inside. Thank goodness some people get it. Do you get it? Spread the word. (Link via Scripting News)

At work, I can feel the ugly spectre of HTML email about to raise its head. How do you explain to people who know nothing about the web or email how evil HTML email can be? I've talked about privacy issues with email tracking, technical difficulty, bad HTML support in email clients, viruses and security, what POP and SMTP were created for, and how great text newsletters can be. And they look at me and say, "Yes, but we want to make pretty pictures!" Ugh. It reminds me of a quote by Ian, the chaos theory expert in Jurassic Park: "Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should." People love the bells and whistles of technology without understanding the reasons for using them (or not using them, as the case may be). Reminds me of the BLINK tag from way back when.

Some days the only thing that keeps me sane is the Pugsly sitting on my monitor.
