Christina at Elegant Hack got me thinking about site maps today. Too long to blog, my thoughts ended up as the latest Brain Lint.

Joel, as usual, hits it dead on: "Many of my days go like this: (1) get into work (2) check email, read the web, etc. (3) decide that I might as well have lunch before getting to work (4) get back from lunch (5) check email, read the web, etc. (6) finally decide that I've got to get started (7) check email, read the web, etc. (8) decide again that I really have to get started (9) launch the damn editor and (10) write code nonstop until I don't realize that it's already 7:30 pm."

It's the truth about coding that nobody, least of all you, wants to admit (particularly if your employer is listening). But I hear the same story again and again - from people all over who do web work or other programming. And you know what? If it were my business, I wouldn't want it any other way. Because all that "looking around the web", if you work the web for a living, means that you're picking up things like crazy during that downtime. It's not like you're looking at porn. You're looking at the stuff that stimulates your mind and teaches you what you don't already know - blogs, tech articles, web culture articles, tips on new software or handy shareware and online tools. And once you do get into the "zone" needed to write code, look out. Some of my best stuff is written after 3pm.

An amusing blog design. This guy has way more patience with code than I do! (Link via Zeldman)

KM or CM or DM or DAM or SCM or.... ? You decide.
