blast from the past

Speaking of browsers, a recent thread of the WebDesign-l mailing list covered where to find old version of browsers, and a huge outpouring of URLs came in.
There was the site to end all sites, evolt.org, which has available for download just about every browser ever made, in every major version ever released, including all major versions of Netscape and IE, and even some ancient versions of Mosaic.
Other URLs (can't quite get used to calling them URIs, sorry) included another great browser list and even a list of sites that provide public Lynx access. Wow! For kicks I decided to see how my personal site looked in the text-only browser... guess what? Not bad! This is why I've stayed (so far) with the HTML 3.2 spec as much as possible.
What fun! I'm definitely going to have to download some ancient versions of Netscape and Mosaic this weekend to play with. It should be interesting to see how many sites won't even display in Mosaic since it was released prior to the advent of HTTP 1.1. To round out the weekend, I'll have to find some BBSes available over the Internet and play myself a game or two of L.O.R.D.
God, I love being a geek! :)
